Alexandra Cameron

Alexandra Cameron lives by a "work hard, play hard" philosophy to squeeze the most out of life!  When she is not at work doing what she loves, as the Senior Vice President, Market Manager for Emmis NY representing the legendary station HOT 97, Loud Digital Network and Summer Jam brand (the largest hip hop concert festival in the world), she is a doting and proud mum to son Oliver and a licensed resource parent for the NJ Department of Youth and Family Services.

Alex began her career as a writer in Ontario, Canada where she grew up, while studying Journalism and Philosophy. She eventually took her writing skills to the air as an Entertainment feature writer and announcer for a Classic Rock station in Vancouver, Canada.   From there she was promoted to Events Reporter for the sister station JRFM and then moved to a Morning Show Co-Host and News Anchor gig with another FM station under the Rogers group.

Cameron was later recruited by Canada Wide Magazines after writing an advertorial piece where she served as their first Creative Account Executive both writing and selling. After a successful run in the print world the station that first employed Alex called her back to join the sales force while she was simultaneously was awarded a Project Management contract with BBDO to manage and execute a major promotion and PR effort to launch an award winning long distance campaign for their telecom account “Spot the 14”. A client recommendation to a media representation firm gave her the opportunity to spread her wings and take a senior position managing a portfolio of radio stations and specialty television networks as well as a new out of home product.  It took her less than a year to demonstrate success for the total media portfolio with forward thinking brand concepts to help advertisers draw on the lifestyle connections and consumer media habits of the properties she represented.  MediaGroup West promoted Cameron to General Manager and gave her the task of launching a new Sales Promotion Division, "nRGYworks" (the whole company was eventually purchased by Standard Broadcasting). She was also elected to VP of The Association of Broadcasters & Communicators, Canada. A year later, New York City called and Cameron answered.

She left Canada to assume the role of Director of Market Development & Local Sales Manager for Clear Channel New York and focus her attention on Q104.3 where she brought the first "non-spot" successes to the radio station and some major client brand custom campaigns.  The challenge that followed was as General Sales Manager for Emmis Communications', HOT 97, leading the revenue charge of this dynamic and iconic hip hop brand against a new competitor, where she spent almost the next 4 years of her career.  After an exciting ride and facing the challenges and adversity that HOT 97 and the genre faced in the press which the station overcame, she accepted Emmis' offer to become Director of Sales.  In 2008 she became General Manager overseeing, HOT 97, 101.9 RXP and KISS FM. Today she is driven by guiding the organization with the mission  " To lead the radio industry in innovation, accountability and collaboration by deliver measurable results for clients and performance growth for Emmis".  Loud Digital is one of Emmis NY’s most recent innovations reaching almost 50,000,000 18-34 consumers with premium branded entertainment content and original scripted series.

Alex also involves herself as an industry mentor to youth and minority individuals with high passion for coaching and helping the career success of others. "I am of the belief that if you help as many people as possible reach their greatest potential, you will ultimately reach yours, the right way"  She is a dog enthusiast  and has two pooches,  "Bella" and "Brave" who volunteer with her in Children's' Animal Therapy.

Cameron also served as Chair for NYMRAD (New York Market Radio) from 2010 to 2012, remains on the board and is also on the board for both the NYSBA (New York State Broadcasters Association) and Advertising Week.

Cameron is a high energy, passionate, hands on leader that is a great optimist and activist of radio's future and states "she is honored to work for what she believes is the best company in the business”.

Cameron’s other interests and hobbies include writing, surfing, skiing and design. She has written a play, a screenplay and has formal training with Universal Studios Masterclass, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and UCLA’s writing program.
