Tommy Mottola
Tommy Mottola is one of the highest-profile executives in the history of the music industry. He is credited with discovering and guiding the careers of many of the world’s most iconic music artists such as Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Beyonce, Barbara Streisand, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Aerosmith, and Hall & Oates as well as forging a new brand of global superstar by creating what TIME Magazine called the Latin Explosion. Signing and developing Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and Marc Anthony. Starting as a musician and an Epic Records recording artist at the age of eighteen, he returned twenty years later to run that very company as Sony Music Entertainment’s global CEO. Mottola was able to create new and successful business models that added to Sony’s bottom line, such as amphitheaters in a co- venture with PACE Concerts, as well as creating the world’s largest rock merchandising company, Sony Signatures, which today are all part of Live Nation Entertainment. Moreover, he revitalized Sony Music's publishing division by making such acquisitions as the Beatles catalogue and enabled Sony to become the first major music company to make available commercial digital downloads. In his tenure, he is credited with tripling the company’s revenue, selling an estimated 8 billion CDs and generating more than $65 billion in sales, expanding its operation in over 60 countries around the world.
Tommy now heads the Mottola Media Group, a global media and entertainment company in New York City. He is a NY TIMES best-selling author having released his memoir, “HITMAKER, the Man and His Music” in 2013 and is currently producing for the Broadway Stage.
