After years in magazines I enjoyed a break in 2000 – to see some of the world and the Olympics in Sydney – which showed me the potential power of mobile. A hotel room booked via a Nokia in Sydney. So it had to be digital when I returned and stints at AOL and Yahoo! UK followed. Then Last.fm. And in February 2012 I joined Shazam. Here was an app that existed before apps were created (as 2580 in the UK Shazam was a text based service for 7 years). This, just at the time social was exploding meant Shazam was playing a critical role in the social currency ‘I found this track/artist first’. Today, Shazam has more than 88 million actives monthly.
