In this session...

Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin and CEO of Wunderman Thompson NA Audrey Melofchik discuss how advertisers can move beyond “normal” stereotypes in media and start writing more progressive stories that better represent the diversity of our modern world.

Marlee Matlin was the first-ever deaf performer to win an Oscar back in 1986. She made history again in 2022, starring in the indie movie CODA, a story about growing up in a deaf family, which won an Academy Award for Best Picture.

As CODA broke barriers in the film industry, Marlee will speak with her translator, Jack Jason, alongside Audrey Melofchik, CEO of Wunderman Thompson NA, about breaking barriers in media and communications to tell richer, more inclusive stories that resonate across all mediums.

They’ll discuss how advertisers can move beyond “normal” stereotypes and start writing more progressive stories that better represent the diversity of our modern world. View Less
