Wright Thompson

Wright Thompson is a senior writer for ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine who is highly regarded for his long-form journalism. He also contributes essays to various ESPN television shows. In 2014, Thompson began reporting a series of stories related to the World Cup, from the killing fields of Bosnia to the corruption and violence in Brazil. He earned a National Headliner award and citations from the Deadline Club and the New York Press Club. His 2013 story “Michael Jordan Has Not Left the Building,” written as Jordan approached 50, was nominated for a 2014 National Magazine Award. In addition, ESPN The Magazine’s New Orleans-themed issue in 2015 featured one extended story written by Thompson that looked at the state of the city 10 years after Hurricane Katrina. Thompson, a University of Missouri graduate, lives in Oxford, Mississippi.
