Bill Koenigsberg

With over 30 years’ experience in the media industry, Bill Koenigsberg’s role at Horizon Media, which he founded in 1989, begins with setting leadership standards and enforcing a client service and strategic philosophy…the hallmarks of the company’s success.

With billings over $ 4 billion dollars and 800 employees, Horizon Media is the largest and fastest-growing independent media agency in the world, representing clients such as Geico, Capital One, United Airlines, A&E Networks and Weight Watchers, as well as numerous others.

Under Bill’s leadership, Horizon was named the 2011 Independent Media Agency of the Year by Mediapost Magazine and in 2010 Media Agency of the Year by both Ad Age and Adweek/Mediaweek/Brandweek, was selected as one of the world’s most innovative advertising and marketing firms in 2011 by Fast Company and was named one of the Best Places to Work in Media and Marketing in 2011 and 2012 by Ad Age.

Bill is regularly sought out by the industry press for his authoritative insights into marketing and media trends and is often asked to sit on industry conference panels. Bill was named Ad Age Executive of the Year in 2011 and is the only person to receive the prestigious Advertising Age Media Maven Award twice, in 2001 and 2010. In 2006, Bill was honored as Media Executive of the Year by Mediaweek Magazine and was featured as one of the industry’s top 50 most influential executives in the business in the annual Mediaweek 50 report in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In addition, Bill was honored as one of the 21 most intriguing people in the media industry by Min Online in 2009. In 2012, Bill was awarded The National Kidney Foundation’s “Visionary Leader Award” for his continued dedication and support. Bill was also awarded the IRTS Foundation “Hall of Mentorship Award” for his knowledge to help others learn and grow. In 2012, Bill was honored by The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB) and The Power of Urban Radio Alliance for his strong commitment and leadership around the committee's adoption of the 4As Non Discrimination Policy and Complaint Review Process. In 2011, Bill was awarded City Harvest’s “the Star of the City Award” for this longstanding commitment to and support of the organization. In 2010, he was awarded the Reisenbach Foundation’s “Distinguished Citizen Award” for his contributions to the organization’s goal of creating a safer New York.

Bill plays an active role as board member on many industry committees. He is currently Chairman of the Media Policy Board and director-at- large of the 4A’s Board of Directors. He also serves on the board of the International Radio and Television Society. Bill is Chairman of the Board for Columbus Media International, Horizon’s sister global media services company that provides international coverage across 60 territories worldwide including North America, Latin America, Europe, Russia and Asia Pacific. Bill serves on the board of City Harvest and led Horizon in making a $250,000 donation to the organization as part of Horizon’s 20th anniversary celebration. Also in 2011, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Partnership at Drugfree.org and as Chairman of the Media Exposure Committee.

Prior to the establishment of Horizon Media in 1989, he was EVP of Media General Inc.’s Media Services Division. He also held positions at advertising agencies and media services companies.

Bill graduated from The University of Miami with a Bachelor of Business Administration. A New Yorker all his life, Bill currently resides in Manhattan with his wife Jessica and has three children. For leisure, Bill enjoys skiing, traveling and the beach.
