Marta Ruiz Cuevas

Born in Oviedo Spain, Marta attended high school in California USA, and graduated with a joint degree in Marketing and International Business from the University of South Alabama where, while on a golf scholarship, she continued on to complete her Master’s in Business Administration.

After a couple years work with an international engineering supplier based in Paris, she landed at Starcom’s Global Headquarters in Chicago. She joined the group’s multicultural division, Tapestry, working on McDonalds, Oldsmobile, Nintendo, Kraft and Americatel (Intel) when she took on responsibility for all of SABMiller’s US multicultural communications as Group Strategy Director.

Following sixteen years stateside living, Marta returned to Spain in 2005 and joined SMG in Madrid as VP Business & Product Development Director, where she quickly helped launch SMG Spain’s name onto the national stage. Under her lead, SMG Spain achieved over 30 awards and recognitions in national and international festivals within two years, garnering its title as Spain’s Most Awarded Agency in 2006 (El Publicista). That same year, SMG was recognized as Agency of the Year (Anuncios).

In 2009, Marta was named Managing Director of SMG in Spain, working with clients including Kraft, Samsung, Carrefour, Heineken, Burger King, Bankinter, Securitas Direct, etc. In the last years, her focus has been transforming SMG Spain in a true digital company where on & off are no longer separate disciplines and converting all teams to multimedia. In addition, she has been an active member of SMG’s Global Product Committee and very involved in different international awards and festivals as a juror (2009 Eurobest, 2012 M&M, 2014 Dubai Lynx, 2014 Cannes Lions, 2015 FOMLA, 2016 El Ojo Iberoamericano, etc.)

Marta Ruiz-Cuevas was appointed Spain’s CEO at Starcom Mediavest Group in April of 2015 and in March of 2016 is named Mexico’s CEO at Publicis Media Mexico, responsible for Starcom, Zenith, Spark Foundry, Blue 449 and Performics). In November 2016, she was awarded with the distinctive recognition “2016 Women to Watch in Mexico” by Adage & AdLatina.

Marta lives in Mexico with her husband, Aitor, and two children Lucas and Marta.
