Ann Shoket

Ann Shoket has been editor in chief of Seventeen magazine since 2007. Under her helm, the iconic fashion and beauty publication for teen girls continues to represent an important rite of passage, helping more than 13 million readers grow up to be confident, self-assured young women. Shoket has grown the brand beyond the pages of the magazine so that teen girls can be a part of the Seventeen universe wherever they are: on the Web, in print, on social-networking platforms, and on their cell or tablet.

Shoket led the magazine to become the number one teen magazine on the newsstand within her first year, the first time the magazine had held that position since Hearst purchased it in 2003. With an editorial brand strategy of “Seventeen Everywhere,” Shoket has grown Seventeen’s digital presence, making seventeen.com the number one teen magazine Web site. The brand is also among the top magazines on Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and YouTube. Seventeen’s iPhone app The Seventeen Fashion Finder was the first app developed at Hearst, and it reached one million downloads in its first year. The Seventeen Shopping Insider app allows readers to shop the pages with their phones. An enhanced interactive magazine edition of Seventeen for the iPad and tablet computers was launched last year.

Shoket has been named one of the most powerful magazine editors on Forbes’ Most Powerful U.S. Fashion Magazine Editors annual list. She has also been honored by the Young Women’s Leadership School, the Girl Scouts, and Planned Parenthood. She currently serves on the Media Advisory Board for The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. She also participates in the Benefit Committee for the Fresh Air Fund.
