Acquire the “learning tools” to create a more collaborative work environment and spark new ideas. Slogans, policies, erroneous in-house trainings, fancy marketing, or communication campaigns alone do not create DE&I. Inclusion ONLY comes by incorporating EMPATHY. Organizations must also change how employees and leaders behave toward each other, designing supporting organizational systems, and actively encouraging employees to leverage these systems. Companies are more likely to gain an edge in new interpersonal skill building when their leaders are willing to question old legacy assumptions. The route to achieving equity will not be accomplished through treating everyone equally. Instead, it’s through learning to listen, hear and adapt to respect differences.
