Gary Newman

Gary Newman, along with Dana Walden, oversees the newly formed Fox Television Group, which unites the broadcast network Fox Broadcasting Company (FBC) and the prolific studio 20th Century Fox Television (TCFTV), which they have led to great success since 1999.
Newman and Walden delivered six of the most celebrated hits of the past five seasons in Levitan and Lloyd’s MODERN FAMILY, which took home the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series four years in a row; Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa’s Golden Globe and Emmy-winning HOMELAND; Ryan Murphy’s thriller anthology sensation AMERICAN HORROR STORY; Murphy’s musical juggernaut GLEE; Liz Meriwether’s breakout young adult comedy NEW GIRL; and the studio’s most recent sensation, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci’s SLEEPY HOLLOW.
In addition, the FOX procedural BONES, currently in its tenth season, continues to deliver millions of viewers week after week, and SONS OF ANARCHY, co-produced with FX Productions, recently delivered not only the highest ratings in the history of the series, but in the history of FX as well.
Twentieth Century Fox Television continues to be the leading supplier of primetime animation, with THE SIMPSONS, entering its 26th record-breaking season, easily the longest running primetime scripted series in the history of television, and FAMILY GUY approaching its 250th episode milestone.
Last spring, the studio returned its landmark 24 to the FOX schedule in the thrilling event series “LIVE ANOTHER DAY,” and this season it will deliver new projects from feature film talents Lee Daniels, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, as well as TV scribes Hart Hanson, Nahnatchka Khan and Michael Weithorn. The seven new network series for the 2014-15 season are BACKSTROM, BORDERTOWN, EMPIRE, LAST MAN ON EARTH and WEIRD LONERS for FOX and CRISTELA and FRESH OFF THE BOAT for ABC.
Recognized as a creative haven to some of the most talented writers and producers working in television today, Twentieth Century Fox Television is the exclusive home to such significant creators as Seth MacFarlane, Steven Levitan, Christopher Lloyd, Jake Kasdan, Jason Winer and Ryan Murphy and enjoys exclusive relationships with Howard Gordon’s Teakwood Lane and Imagine Television.
Walden and Newman oversee the studio’s booming cable production units Fox 21 – which produces HOMELAND and SONS OF ANARCHY in addition to RUSH, LEGENDS, SALEM, WITCHES OF EAST END, BRICKLEBERRY and TYRANT – and Fox Television Studios, which makes THE AMERICANS, THE KILLING and WHITE COLLAR, among others.
They also oversee the studio’s enormously successful worldwide Fox Consumer Products division which is charged with extending and exploiting the company’s vast array of entertainment properties, as well as premiere titles for Fox Film, Fox Sports and 20th Television, the company’s syndication arm, a leading supplier of off-network and first-run programming.
Prior to being named head of the studio in 1999, Newman was the studio’s Executive Vice President and top ranking business officer, working closely with Twentieth Century Fox International Television, Twentieth Television and FOX Home Entertainment to develop strategies for worldwide distribution of its product. He came to the studio from the Business Affairs department of NBC, where he rose through the ranks from Manager to Vice President, and before that worked for the Legal department of Columbia Pictures Television. He got his start as an associate with Lillick, McHose & Charles.
Newman and Walden were inducted into Broadcasting & Cable’s Television Hall of Fame; were named 2013’s “Showman of the Year” by Variety and 2011’s Television Showman of the Year by the Publicists of the International Cinematographers Guild; and have been honored by UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Center, the Los Angeles Free Clinic and the Legal Aid Society. Newman is a member of the Los Angeles Board of Governors of the Paley Center for Media and currently serves on the boards of the Hollywood Radio & Television Society, Chrysalis, and the Jewish Television Network.
