Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez is a film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, editor, and musician. He owns Troublemaker Studios in his hometown of Austin,TX where shoots and produces many of his films, which have helped establish Austin as a prominent city for filmmaking. His first feature, El Mariachi, showed his talents as a filmmaker and won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 1993. The sequel, Desperado, starred Antonio Banderas and introduced Salma Hayek to American audiences. He has since released a number of successful films, including Once Upon a Time in Mexico, From Dusk to Dawn, Sin City and Spy Kids. Robert is also the founder and creative force of El Rey Network, an action network geared toward young adults that will feature Rodriguez’ original content as well as content from Latino actors, directors and producers that will appeal to mainstream audiences all across the country. He is a strong supporter of digital film making, having been introduced to the practice by director George Lucas, and was presented with the Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award at the 2010 Austin Film Festival.
