Mike Darcey took up the position of Chief Executive Officer of News UK in January 2013, following 15 years with BSkyB where he was Chief Operating Officer since 2006. He is a Non-Executive Director and Senior Independent Director of Home Retail Group (which operates Argos and Homebase).
Since his arrival at News UK, Mike has focused the company’s strategy around distinctive, paid-for bundles to secure a profitable future for News UK’s world-class journalism.
Mike also initiated the decision to move the London operations to new premises at London Bridge in summer 2014, coming together in one building with Harper Collins and Dow Jones, from the News Corp group.
Mike grew up in New Zealand but has been living and working in the UK since 1989. He graduated from Victoria University in Wellington with an honours degree in Mathematics and has an MSc from the London School of Economics.
He is married to Julie with teenage children Jonathan and Laura. He enjoys most sports and activities related to the mountains and the sea, and was a national gymnastics champion in New Zealand as a teenager.
