Jay Lauf

Jay Lauf is co-founder and president of Charter, a media and services company that aims to transform every workplace.

Prior to helping launch Charter, Jay was co-CEO of Quartz, which he joined before its launch in 2012 and remained as chairman until the end of 2019. He oversaw the media brand’s commercial operations and during his tenure Quartz's innovative approach to digital advertising garnered awards and honors from Digiday, AdWeek (2012), the Headliner awards, Deadline Club and others.

Prior to Quartz, Jay led The Atlantic’s revitalization as its publisher from 2008 - 2012. During that time, AdAge called The Atlantic "an ultra-modern, multi-platform juggernaut.” In 2010, Jay was recognized as AdAge's Publishing Executive of the Year and in 2012 as AdWeek's Publisher of the Year.

Jay joined Atlantic Media after seven highly successful years at Wired, where he served progressively from 2001 as advertising director, associate publisher, and publisher.
