Peter van Roden

Peter van Roden is an Emmy-award winning producer and media executive with over twenty years of experience in production, marketing and management.

When he realized continuing to pursue a career as rock musician meant he actually had to be good at it, Peter jumped the classic rock ship in 1983 and began his media career at ABC Sports where he won a 1988/89 Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Programming for the Calgary Olympic promotional campaign.

In 1990, Peter joined The Walt Disney Company as Director of Network Specials, producing network specials that combined entertainment and promotion of Disney properties and product. During this time at Disney he got to know and work with Jim Henson, producing and developing a number of shows with the Muppet genius.

As a result of that relationship, in 1993, Peter was asked to run the New York Production office of The Jim Henson Company. Out of that department came, among others, three seasons of the TV series Bear in the Big Blue House for the Disney Channel.

In 1999 Peter was recruited to be CEO of a groundbreaking K-12 education website, HomeworkCentral.com. He succeeded in turning the company around, raising several rounds of capital and being acquired (yes, before the crash) by bigchalk/ProQuest, still a leader in online K-12 education products.

In May of 2003, Peter joined Sesame Workshop as Vice President of Themed Entertainment, where he significantly expanded the Workshop’s global businesses in theme parks, tours, exhibits and other non-traditional media ventures.

June of 2014 found Peter on a new expedition as the SVP Global Experiences & Events for National Geographic in Washington DC overseeing and expanding all of Nat Geo's Museum, Exhibits, Speaker's Bureau and Themed Entertainment activities.

More importantly, Peter is married to the wonderful and talented, Lisa, and they have two terrific sons as well as a dog and a cat.
