Dorine Gordon

Dorine Gordon is President & CEO of The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter. She founded The Greater New York Chapter in 1994 after her mother succumbed to Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Under Dorine’s guidance, The Greater New York Chapter has become a leader in promoting the national mission of The ALS Association through research, patient and community services, legislative advocacy and public awareness.

Dorine has been instrumental in the creation and development of the annual Lou Gehrig Sports Award Benefit Dinner, which has become a premiere fund-raising event in the fight against ALS. Honorees have included Muhammad Ali, Joe Torre, Joe Girardi and Mariano Rivera. In the 20 years of its existence, the dinner has raised over $20 million.

While serving on the ALSA’s National Board of Trustees for 9 years, Dorine chaired the Community Service Committee where she played a crucial role in implementing and expanding the “Walk to Defeat ALS” fund-raising walks across the country. The largest fund-raising program for the ALS Association (before the Ice Bucket Challenge), the nationwide walks have generated over $200 million since 2000.

Currently, Dorine is a member of the ALSA’s National Board of Trustees Research Committee.

As one of The ALS Association's leading chapters, the Greater New York Chapter serves patients and families throughout Long Island, New York City, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, and Northern & Central New Jersey. The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter plays a major role in promoting the mission to lead the fight to treat and cure ALS through global research and nationwide advocacy while also empowering people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support. The ALS Association is the only national nonprofit voluntary health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. ALSA is a member of the National Health Council.

In the summer of 2014, the ALS community has seen a staggering amount of success through the ALS #icebucketchallenge. The viral videos dominated social media and helped raise $110 million for the ALS Association nationally - $5 million of that for the Greater New York Chapter directly.
