Richard Benson

Richard Benson was The Editor of The Face magazine between 1995 and 1999, during which time it achieved record sales figures, and the Guardian called him “one of Britain’s most important cultural commentators” for his writing about popular culture. He became Group Editor of The Face, the Arena titles and Frank, before leaving to write full time. His 2005 memoir The Farm, about growing up in the Yorkshire countryside, was a number one bestseller, Richard and Judy Book Club choice, and shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award. The Valley, his critically-acclaimed follow up about four generation of a mining family, was a Radio 4 Book of the Week, shortlisted for the Gordon Burn prize, and earned him comparisons with DH Lawrence. He has worked with companies including General Motors, BMW and Motorola to explore the human stories behind brands.
