John Puterbaugh, Ph.D.

John is Vice President of Advanced Media & Innovation at Quad, where he leads the planning and execution of omni-channel programs that integrate digital and physical channels to help brands achieve measurable business outcomes. As a marketing and analytics strategist, he is focused on campaigns that are transparent and based on known, measurable audiences.
John co-founded one of the first mobile agencies, nellymoser, in 2000, pioneering early mobile apps and services for major brands including MTV (South Park, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report), Sony Music, Warner Music, Virgin Mobile, and Amazon’s Audible.
As it relates to innovation, he has deployed new technologies that bridge offline and online experiences — from immersive media (AR, VR, 3D CGI) to mobile response mechanisms (NFC, beacons, imperceptible watermarks, Flowcodes) — for leading publishers, retailers, and direct marketers.
John is a frequent speaker at industry events and lives in central Massachusetts.
