Dade Hayes is a contributing editor at Deadline Hollywood, working full-time in New York and covering the media business as well as advertising, film, television and theater. During his decade at Variety, he led the New York editorial team after spending seven years in Los Angeles as a reporter and editor. He also worked as a senior editor for Entertainment Weekly and ran editorial operations at Broadcasting & Cable.
Dade is the author of two books from major publishers: Anytime Playdate: Inside the Preschool Entertainment Boom, or, How Television Became My Baby’s Best Friend and, with Jonathan Bing, Open Wide: How Hollywood Box Office Became a National Obsession. His writing has also appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Canada’s Globe and Mail, TV Guide and Forbes. Original scripts he wrote about the rivalry between media moguls William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer were adapted in 2018 as a six-episode podcast for Wondery’s popular audio series Business Wars.
