In 2005, Tom Mercer took a high risk by starting his own product from nothing. The risk was a new category of food, now known as MOMA Foods. Eighteen years later, Tom sold the national business to an investor and is now looking into other ventures.
Tom encountered many challenges during his journey. He used mental tools to manage the highs and lows. Things don’t always go to plan — in 2010 he was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis).
Patrick Melville, a mental health and marketing expert with a terminal cancer diagnosis, will interview Tom.

MOMA’s launch consisted of working on the streets selling the products and building the brand without any marketing budget. It involved many stressful times, like working 12 hours a day with no sunlight and no clients. Marketing has always been core to building the brand and success.
Tom recognised the connection between brand and mental resilience. A good example is the value of time. Time has helped Tom with his journey, especially as a founder, investor, employer, marketer and father.
Patrick is also a father and will support Tom's story with mental health knowledge. They will cover themes such as the power of Now to building a personal brand Circle of Strength. These are ways to manage the 2024 industry challenges and create the right focus to perform to our best.
