Jane Evans

Jane Evans. Creative Director. Author. Activist. Speaker.

Jane Evans started her advertising career in 1982, she was the first female creative to work at
London hotshop Leagas Delaney. In her early career she worked on Philips. Tetley beer and a
young start up in the tech space. She launched Microsoft Word version 1 in the UK in 1983. A few
years into her career she was headhunted out to Australia where she had a stellar career, winning a
huge amount of awards and ending up a regional creative director for J Walter Thompson.

Then she took a giant Leap and opened her own agency - Giant Leap. Her first client was a small
brewery who believed in the craft beer brand she created. James Squire beer is now the biggest
craft beer brand in Australia. Jane had many other clients like Maserati, Revlon and the Guide Dogs
and in 2001 her small independent agency was the 19th most awarded in the South Pacific region.
Then she became a single mum and scaled back her business to allow her to do both jobs well. For
the next ten years she specialised in creating 18 separate craft beer brands.

But Jane doesn’t actually like beer and got bored.

She moved her family back to the UK and took some time off to study storytelling for the screen
at the National Film and Television School and BAFTA.

Then a figure came out that only 3% of the world’s creative directors were women, Jane was the
most ridiculously overqualified woman for the role and stuck her hand up very loudly. She was
completely and utterly ignored.

So she started the Uninvisibility movement to change the societal narrative that renders midlife
women invisible. Her book co-authored by Carol Russell entitled Invisible to Invaluable. Unleashing
the power of midlife women, envisions a world where midlife women are valued and employed.
Jane is a great believer that words are useless without action and has recently launched Visible
Start, an initiative in partnership with the Brixton Finishing School and WPP where midlife women
are trained in digital marketing with real jobs and career opportunities at the end. We have just
completed our pilot programme and 16 midlife women are now fully- employed at WPP media
agencies.

Jane is an accomplished speaker and media commentator having appeared on BBC World News
and Sky News with keynotes at Zee Melt India, the 3% conference and Cannes Lions. She has
appeared on many podcasts from Creative Rebels to This Way Up.
