Steve left school at 18 and began his career in advertising and computer graphics at the company Adplates in 1989; there he founded technology company Turning Point Technologies, returning to Adplates in 1998 to acquire the business and rename it Tag Worldwide.
Steve reinvented Tag and revolutionised parts of the advertising industry. He turned Tag from a small London based company with 50 staff, and a turnover of under €4m, into the world’s leading advertising production company. At the same time inventing the concept of centralised production and adaptation and developing an online system to manage global ad delivery. Tag boasted a client base of some of the world’s biggest brands including Unilever, Intel, HP, Reebok and H&M to name but a few. With 3000 full and part time employees, operating across all media type from 13 offices around the world, and revenues in excess of €180m. Steve exited the business selling 2011 to Deutsche Post DHL for around £200m.
In 2010 while still owning Tag Steve acquired the football club he supported from childhood, Crystal Palace FC, where he has acted as Executive Chairman for the past 6 years. Since the acquisition Steve has successfully brought the Club out of administration, into the Championship play offs, and after winning the play off final in May 2013, into the Premier League where the Club has enjoyed so far it’s longest stay. The Club currently has a place in the Semi Final of the FA Cup and looks set to break it’s own record and stay in the top flight for three consecutive seasons.
Steve’s time is now divided between running Crystal Palace Football Club and his growing property portfolio, along with investing in, and advising companies and mentoring young businessmen and women. As a serial entrepreneur and investor Steve has had significant and successful investments in many companies since leaving Tag and whilst running Crystal Palace, including Pure Gyms and the Bird Restaurant chain.
Steve also actively supports both the Crystal Palace Foundation and the charity Nordoff Robbins.
