Charlie McDermott

After graduating from UNITEC in Auckland, New Zealand, Charlie worked as an actor before establishing The Basement Theatre in 2008. As General Manager Charlie oversaw the evolution of The Basement into Auckland's premier live performance development space, which now hosts over 100 number of theatre, dance and comedy shows each year. In 2013 Charlie won the Hynds Creative Entrepreneur Award and before leaving New Zealand for the UK was on the board of Creative Coalition, Actors Equity and The Performing Arts Network of New Zealand (PAANZ). He was one of the founding members of The Actor's Program, an industry-based drama school in Auckland, and has produced The Generation of Z with producing partner Beth Allen since the show's inception in 2011. Beth and Charlie, under the brand Royale Productions, also produced acclaimed seasons of Mojo, Killer Joe, The Vagina Monologues and, with GenZ director Michael Hurst, No Holds Bard, which appeared at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013.
