The first poster BBH produced in 1982 was for Levi's black 501's and featured a black sheep in a field of white with the line "When the World Zigs, Zag". Both the black sheep and the line were adopted by John Bartle, Nigel Bogle and John Hegarty as a statement of intent for their new agency. Do things differently.
Today, Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) is one of the World’s most famous advertising agencies and produces campaigns for illustrious brands such as Audi, Diageo, The Guardian, Google and Unilever.
BBH in London is the only creative agency to win Campaign’s Agency of the Year three years in a row (2003, 2004, 2005) and won the title again in 2011 and 2012. BBH is the first holder of the double of effectiveness awards, IPA and APG and won the Grand Prix for Effectiveness at Cannes in 2012. In 2012 the network won the Webby’s Interactive Agency of the Year, was the second most awarded independent network in the world at the Cannes Lions Festival and won Adweek's Ad of the Year.
Gwyn Jones has grown up at BBH. He joined as the first ever graduate trainee in 1987 after graduating from Oxford with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He was made an Account Director in 1991 and appointed to the Board in 1994. In 1998 he became Joint Managing Director of BBH UK and took over sole responsibility for the role in 2000.
Gwyn took the London agency through a period of exceptional growth and industry recognition with BBH winning ten Agency of the Year awards in four years and a record three consecutive Campaign Magazine Agency of the Year awards.
In 2004 he transferred to New York to take on the position of CEO of BBH New York. Again, he oversaw a period of both business and creative growth for the company with new assignments from Unilever, Diageo, Dyson, PepsiCo, New York City and The Miller Brewing Company.
Gwyn returned to London in 2008 to take up the role of Group Chief Operating Officer and then in July 2012 was promoted to the top job as CEO of the group. He leads BBH’s definitive micro network which has offices in London, New York, Brazil, Singapore, Shanghai, Mumbai and Los Angeles and employs 1000 staff worldwide. He oversaw the sale and integration of BBH into the Publicis Groupe in 2012 and is now focussed on growing the business both organically and via acquisition and ensuring that BBH continues to do things differently.
